Christian Clowning

What is Christian Clowning?

Clowning is a gift from God  which enables us to connect with neglected and lost persons in our community; it provides a way to minister to those who suffer physical and emotionally (in hospitals , care facilities, special needs groups). There is also a special presentation in children’s faith activates and schools.  A Christian clown is challenged by love, lead by the sprit to minister, witness, aid, comfort, console, cheer, and assist those who are facing adversity.  A Christian clown will minister so that other will know Jesus as Savior.  1 Corinthians 4:10 “We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ.”  Proverbs 15:13 “A joyful heart makes a cheerful face.” A believer in Jesus Christ has much to be joyful about and  we are called to share that joy.

What does the Bible have to say?

I I Corinthians 9:22 Paul shares that he becomes all things to all people that he might reach them. In fact , the supreme model of the Christian clown Is Jesus, and our clowning must bear witness of Him. In the  simplest terms, the Christian clown steps in and takes the pie  in the face, rather then throwing the pie! It can also be said that clowning is an art from the heart! What makes the Christian clown is not what you see on the outside (the costume, makeup, props), but comes from the within. This is the Christian clown one who conveys love, patience, compassion, and understanding, but most of all, one who gives of one’s self, as Jesus did.

How can this be a ministry?

Clowns are welcomed at many places where people are hurting and need to know the love of Jesus, like nursing homes, hospitals, and community centers. The clown can bring joy to the trodden heart and tell of the hope that lies in the work that Jesus had completed on the cross.

How hard is it to share my faith?

Recently while speaking to a Christian clown I asked her to share one of the ways she shares her faith and she told of a pin of small ruby shoes and when people ask her why she is wearing the pin she explains that it reminders her of how Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ, wanted to head straight home and that she too wants to head straight home not to her earthly home but to her heavenly home. It is that easy just wearing something or the way you smile this is all it takes to have the people you are visiting ask you about your faith or why you are so happy.
